Information for Attorneys

What is the Utah Divorce Clinic?

The Utah Divorce Clinic is a mediation services provider in Utah. We are not a law firm.

Can I refer low-income parties to the Utah Divorce Clinic?

Yes. If you're consulting with a prospective client and determine that they can't afford your services, you can refer them to the Utah Divorce Clinic. We'll do our best to help them resolve their case.

If the mediation is successful, we can also refer them back to you to review the drafted stipulation before they sign. If the client would prefer for your firm to handle the final documents and filing, we can also send you the parties' signed agreement so you can prepare the final documents.

Can I attend mediation with my client?

Yes. Whether your providing full representation or assisting on a limited-scope basis, you're welcome to attend mediation. The client can also attend mediation alone and contact you throughout the process for advice and input.

Do parties leave mediation with a signed agreement?

If the parties reach an agreement in mediation, we draft a Memorandum of Understanding that reflects the terms agreed upon. Before parties sign, we encourage them to seek the advice of a licensed attorney to review the agreement.

Are your mediators legally trained?

Yes. All of our mediators have formal legal training and experience.
